Description
Under the halogen lights, we watch the baseball players drinking very blue Gatorade. The dry thump of the wood against the ball is lost in the smell of freshly cut grass. We stare at the back of Mathieu's neck under his mushroom haircut. Our thighs stick to the metal bleachers and we wish there were hot dogs like in the movies. PITCH is a participatory residency in situ leading to a public presentation. For one week, four choreographers paired with four citizens explore the movement possibilities of a municipal sports field.
PITCH was born out of a nostalgic imagination of sports grounds and their use by the community. For sports fans, these places exude a mythical aura of halogen lights and overexcited crowds. Outside the hours dedicated to sport, the architectural elements - bleachers, goals, fenced cages, changing rooms, lawns and sand diamonds - become a playground of a thousand possibilities. Exploring movement in situ is a way of becoming part of the civic life of the host municipality. It offers a fresh look at everyday places, nourished by the exchange of balls between the VISITOR-choreographers and the LOCAL-citizens.
